Every day you provide your bodies with good to keep them from failing. In the same way your good works should be the daily nourishment of your hearts. Your bodies are fed with food and your spirits with good works. You aren't to deny your soul, which is going to live forever, what you grant to your body, which is going to die.

St. Gregory the Great

In last week’s bulletin there was a survey dealing with contemporary moral issues.  I noticed that 62% of the Orthodox Christians who participated in the survey said that they felt abortion should be legal.  Is this really what the Church teaches?
Last week the Parish Council was installed into office, and I have some questions about it. First, in the old country we never had parish councils, is this a genuinely Orthodox practice?

Annual Meeting

Sunday, January 17, 2010

On Sunday, January 17th, the parishioners of Christ the Savior gathered together for the Annual Meeting of the parish. In addition to reviewing the minutes from last year's meeting, the Parish heard reports from the rector, senior warden, treasurer, auditors, and committee chairpersons.

After passing the 2010 budget, nominations were heard for Parish Council membership. The list of Council members who are awaiting confirmation from our diocesan bishop, Metropolitan Jonah, include:
  • Bruce Eckerd
  • Diane Evanusa
  • Nicholas Evanusa
  • Tanya Jenkins
  • Olga  Klymuk
  • Fr. Christian Lesinsky
  • Jodi McElwee
  • Michael McFarland
  • Constantine Mitsopolous
  • Alice Peters
  • Gabriela Vlahovici-Jones
Following the election of the new Parish Council, the Annual Meeting decided the following: The Parish Council and Finance Committee were commissioned to update a previously prepared feasibility study regarding acquisition of property for the future home of Christ the Savior. This study is to be presented to a Special Parish Assembly soon after Pascha.

Having thanked God for all His blessings throughout the past year and having set our focus on Him for the year to come, the Annual Parish Meeting came to a close with the singing of the hymn, "It is truly meet". Glory to God for all things!
