Each year on August 16th, when the Church commemorates the revealing of the Icon Not-Made-By-Hands, Christ the Savior Mission celebrates its parish feastday. The celebration this year was especially joyous as the Mission, established in 2000, sent up its thanks to God for 10 years of His Almighty protection and blessings!
Worshipping with the faithful of Christ the Savior were family and friends who journeyed to Delmarva for the festivities and the baptism of Nicholas Parsells. Among them were: Archpriest James Parsells, Protodeacon Paul Sokol, and members of
Ss. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church in Manville, NJ; Archpriest David Straut and members of
St. Elizabeth the New Martyr Orthodox Church in Rocky Hill, NJ; and Archpriest Michael Koblosh and Mat. Nadia from
All Saints of America Orthodox Church in Alexandria, VA.
The baptism of Nicholas Parsells was performed by Fr. David Straut, who also shared his pastoral wisdom in an excellent homily. The godparents were Reader Gregory Maxey and Diaconissa Patricia Sokol, friends of Fr. John and Mat. Emily from New Jersey. Following the Divine Services, people made their way to the rectory for an open house.
We thank all those who made the special effort to be with us for the 10th Patronal Feast of Christ the Savior and the baptism of Nicholas Parsells. Likewise, we ask that the Lord God will strengthen and preserve them, together with the newly-illumined servant of God, Nicholas, and all the members and supporters of Christ the Savior Orthodox Church for many blessed years!
