It is necessary most of all for one who is fasting to curb anger, to accustom himself to meekness and condescension, to have a contrite heart, to repulse impure thoughts and desires, to examine his conscience, to put his mind to the test and to verify what good has been done by us in this or any other week, and which deficiency we have corrected in ourselves in the present week. This is true fasting.

St. John Chrysostom

Isn’t this predestination in the classic Calvinist sense?
How often should I confess my sins?

Invitation to
June 17, 2012
All Saints of North America

Dear Ones in Christ,

It is with great joy and humble appreciation that I write this letter to you, announcing that by the grace of God and with your steadfast help and support, we have now moved our little mission of Christ the Savior into our new parish center at 10315 Carey Road, Berlin, MD 21811!

This historic event in the life of our mission coincided with the great feast of Holy Pentecost – which each year renews us all with divine energy and apostolic zeal. This year, Pentecost was uniquely special as having celebrated the Divine services and having sung the beautiful hymn, “Who is so great a God as our God!”, we packed up our chapel and moved from our little rental space to the spacious property and expansive facilities which God had so extraordinarily and providentially prepared for us.

On All Saints Sunday, as we celebrated the first Divine Liturgy on the new property, we had the historic privilege hearing the words, “Blessed is the Kingdom!”, echo forth and resound for the first time in this new place which God has claimed for Himself. This profoundly moving weekend touched the hearts of not only those who had the privilege of gathering those days but also everyone whose lives have been integrally linked to the mission and who celebrated from afar.

I now have the distinct honor of inviting all of you, the members, friends, benefactors, and extended family of Christ the Savior, to come to our formal “Opening Weekend”, which will take place on Saturday and Sunday, July 7th and 8th. His Beatitude, Metropolitan JONAH, will lead the festivities, blessing the new property and celebrating the Vigil and Hierarchical Divine Liturgy. There will be time on both days for tours of the property, swimming for the children, and food and fellowship for everyone. We humbly ask that you come join us as we offer up thanks and glory to God for all the blessings which He has so mercifully bestowed upon us!

For more information regarding the “Opening Weekend”, a detailed schedule of events, directions to the new property, as well as photos of the new facilities, please visit our website: orthodoxdelmarva.org. Should you have any questions or need some help making travel arrangements, please feel free to call us at 302-537-6055.

We look forward to seeing you all and celebrating together on this historic weekend!

With anticipation and love in Christ,

Fr. John Parsells
