Patronal Feast - 08/16/10

Each year on August 16th, when the Church commemorates the revealing of the Icon Not-Made-By-Hands, Christ the Savior Mission celebrates its parish feastday. The celebration this year was especially joyous as the Mission, established in 2000, sent up its thanks to God for 10 years of His Almighty protection and blessings!

Dormition of the Virgin Mary - 08/15/10

On Sunday, August 15th, the Mission celebrated the Dormition of Virgin Mary, which commemorates her death, burial, and resurrection, following the footsteps of her Divine Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Service of Supplication - 08/11/10

On Wednesday evening, August 11th, the faithful gathered at the church for the Paraklesis (Service of Supplication) to the Mother of God. This service is offered whenever a specific need arises, as well as by custom during the Dormition Lent.

Baptism of Zoe Marie - 08/01/10

On Sunday, August 1st, Zoe Marie, daughter of John and Oana Cullen, was baptized into the Orthodox Church. May God grant Zoe, her parents, her sister Eva, and her sponsors, Slyvio and Anna Marie, many blessed years!

Blessing of Automobiles - 07/18/10

On Sunday, July 18th, the faithful of Christ the Savior gathered for the Divine Liturgy followed by the annual Blessing of Automobiles. Among the guests visiting the Mission were VRev. Michael Westerberg, who offered an inspired homily, and Dn. Alexander Cadman, who assisted at the altar table.

Church Yard Sale - 07/03/10

On Saturday, July 3rd, we had our summer yard sale. The weather was beautiful and the event was well supported both by parishioners who hosted the sale and also by the local community who came to purchase items. A great day was had by all. We thank everyone for making this yard sale the most successful we've ever had!

Baptism of Caleb Joseph - 06/27/10

On Sunday, June 27th, Caleb Joseph, son of Michael and Nada McFarland, was baptized into the Orthodox Church. May God grant Caleb, his parents, and his sponsors, Nick and Anna Evanusa, many blessed years! 

Honoring of Graduates - 06/06/10

On Sunday, June 6th, we offered prayers of thanksgiving to God for the conclusion of the academic year. Likewise we honored those who have graduated this year. Blessed is God who enlightens every man who comes into the world!

Consecration of Bishop Michael - 05/08/10

On Saturday, May 8th, members of Christ the Savior traveled to Ss. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church in Jersey City, NJ, for the consecration of His Grace Bishop Michael (Dahulich). Fr. John was a student of Bishop Michael, who formerly served as Dean of St. Tikhon's Seminary before being elected Bishop of New York and New Jersey.

Children's Egg Hunt - 04/11/10

On Thomas Sunday, April 11th, an egg hunt was held for the children of the parish. As we know, the egg is widely used as a symbol of the start of new life, just as new life emerges from an egg when the chick hatches out. However, there were of course no chicks in these eggs, just chocolate and candy - much to the delight of the children and the dread of their parents!

Holy Pascha - 04/04/10

On Sunday, April 4th, the faithful gathered for the celebration of the Lord's Resurrection - Holy Pascha. Following the "Midnight Service", a festal meal was shared in the church. We greet you with the joyous proclamation, "Christ is risen! Indeed He is Risen!"

Palm Sunday - 03/28/10

On Palm Sunday, March 28th, the faithful gathered to celebrated the Lord's Entrance into Jerusalem. In remembrance of this day, and with anticipation of the Lord's victory over death on Holy Pascha, we carry palms and pussy-willows.

Reception of Converts - 03/26/10

On the Eve of Lazarus Saturday, Kenny Nikolai Marchick and Daniel Sergius Reynolds were received into the Orthodox Church through the Mysteries of Baptism and Chrismation. We congratulate them both on this joyous day, and we ask that the Lord always protect, guide, and keep them, granting them all things necessary for salvation in His Heavenly Kingdom! Many Blessed Years!

Lenten Pilgrimage - 03/21/10

On the weekend of March 20-21, members of Christ the Savior traveled to NJ for the exhibit, "Architecture as Icon" at Princeton University, and to attend the Divine Services at St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Howell and Ss. Peter & Paul Church in Manville.

Installation of Parish Council - 02/21/10

On Sunday, February 21st, with the blessing of our diocesan hierarch, Metropolitan Jonah, the 2010 Parish Council members were installed into office. During the first meeting of the 2010 Council, Diane Evanusa was elected Senior Warden, Alice Peter, Junior Warden, and Michael McFarland was elected Treasurer. May the Lord bless them all!

March For Life - 01/22/10

On Friday, January 22nd, members of Christ the Savior traveled to Washington DC for the annual March For Life. The march is an annual pro-life rally protesting abortion, held in the nation's capital on the anniversary of the decision in the United States Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade. Many marchers also protest the use of euthanasia.

Annual Meeting - 01/17/10

On Sunday, January 17th, the parishioners of Christ the Savior gathered together for the Annual Meeting of the parish. In addition to reviewing the minutes from last year's meeting, the Parish heard reports from the rector, senior warden, treasurer, auditors, and committee chairpersons.

Sunday After Theophany - 01/10/10

On Sunday, January 10th, the church and its members were blessed with the holy water sanctified on Theophany. Following the Divine Liturgy, the church school lesson was on how Christ blessed the water of the Jordan River by His Baptism. After the class the children made beautifully decorated jars to bring the holy water to their homes for use by their families.

St. Basil's Bread - 01/03/10

On Sunday, January 3rd, the Sunday after the feastday of St. Basil the Great (January 1st) we kept the custom of the Vasilopeta (St. Basil's Bread). This year the coins were received by Nada & Jacob McFarland (one coin), Alice Peters (one coin), and Kenny Marchick (one coin). May the Lord grant them many blessed years!
