Movie: The Story of Everything

You are invited to join Christ the Savior Orthodox Church for a group outing to see The Story of Everything on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at 6:30 PM at Regal Salisbury. In a world that often sees the universe as random and without meaning, this film invites us to behold creation with wonder and reverence. From the vastness of the galaxies to the hidden complexity within a single cell, we are reminded that “the heavens declare the glory of God” (Psalm 19:1). What we encounter is not chaos, but order… not accident, but beauty… not silence, but a quiet testimony to the Logos who sustains all things. This is more than a film about science. It is an invitation to see the world as a gift, to rediscover awe, and to deepen our gratitude to God, the Creator of all. Come experience this inspiring and thought-provoking film together as a parish!

Women's Psalter Group Dinner

During the daily services of Great Lent the Church doubles the readings from the Psalter (Book of Psalms).  As our parish was not able to offer all of these services, a group of women, organized by Alexis DeArmitt, divided the Psalter into sections so that it could be read together each day. The effort was led by parishioner Joe Dunbar, owner of Out On A Limb Tree Service, who brought his truck equipped with a powerful crane arm capable of lifting and removing massive logs. Working together, the team cut damaged trees, cleared debris, and hauled away heavy timber, making tremendous progress restoring the church property.

We congratulate all who celebrate on this day!

Through its powerful scriptural reflections, we were called to deeper self-examination and renewed commitment to Christ. On Friday evening, we celebrated the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts, where we were pleased to welcome Archpriest Gary Breton, recently retired to Millsboro, Delaware. Receiving strength for the Lenten journey, the week concluded with a Lenten potluck, where fellowship and simple fare reflected the quiet joy of beginning Great Lent together.

Clean Monday

On Clean Monday, a quiet snowfall descended upon Christ the Savior Orthodox Church in Berlin, wrapping the Parish Center and forest in white. As we began the Great Fast, the earth itself seemed to preach repentance. The prophet declares, “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow” (Isaiah 1:18). The fresh snow, untouched and radiant, became an icon of the mercy of God. Lent opens before us not as bleakness, but as promise. The Lord does not merely cover our sins; He makes all things new, pure, and bright by His divine grace and love for mankind.

He is also called Levi or Thaddeus and sometimes the name Jude is rendered as Judas, but he is not to be confused with Judas Iscariot, the Apostle Matthew (also called "Levi"), or the Apostle Thaddeus of the Seventy. He is referenced in the Synoptic Gospels, the Acts of the Apostles, and wrote an epistle which is part of the New Testament. His feast day is on June 19. All are invited!

Candle Making at Christ the Savior

For the past seventeen years, Christ the Savior has been collecting remnants of the candles that have been offered during worship services and storing them with the hope that at some point, we might be able to locally recycle these candle stubs to be used again by the faithful as they offer their prayers to God. One of our parishioners, Justin Barkewich, has offered his time and talents, learning the art of candle making, and providing this important ministry to the parish. Additionally, the large mosaic of the Icon Not-made-by-hands, prepared by St. Elizabeth’s Convent in Minsk, Belarus, was on display before later being installed in the archway in the near future. This was an opportunity to see these beautiful mosaics in advance of their installation and to hear from the Mosaic Team, who has worked diligently for more than a year, dedicating their time, talent, and other resources to this important work, in memory of our parish’s beloved founder, Protopresbyter Daniel Hubiak, and to the glory of God!

Reading Group: "Money and Salvation: An Invitation to the Good Way" by Dr. Andrew Geleris

In January and February 2023, our reading group will be examining "Money and Salvation: An Invitation to the Good Way" by Dr. Andrew Geleris, an Orthodox Christian neurologist and author. Too often, we as hierarchs, clergy, and lay leaders speak to our people about giving to meet the needs of the Church or the needs of the poor, and we forget to teach that the true need for each and every one of us is simply to give. God did not recommend that we give only when there is some perceived need or a capital campaign for a project. God commands that we give for our salvation. This short but profound book explores the deeper spiritual meaning—and necessity—of financial giving.

Many thanks to the church school teachers and parents for putting on the event!

Its influence on all Christian theology thereafter, East and West, ensures its place as one of the few "must read" books of Christian theology for all time.
